What's Sauce For the Goose Must Be Sauce For the Gander

The Hypocrisy on Tara Reade Is a National Disgrace

By The Editors,
National Review Online

We do not know whether the accusations that Tara Reade has leveled against Joe Biden are true or false. That is a question of evidence and of inquiry that might be answered as time rolls on. We do know, by contrast, that the double standard that has been exhibited by Biden’s campaign and by the political press in tandem is a national disgrace. Both culturally and legally, due process must be habitually applied to nobody or to everyone. If, upon the most frivolous and protean of pretexts, it is routinely accorded to one faction while being denied to another, it is effectively lost.

Though he has not deigned to address it directly, Joe Biden insists that he is innocent of the charge that he digitally penetrated an intern back in 1993. “It is untrue,” his communications director says. “This absolutely did not happen.” If so, we hope that this incident has taught Biden that his previous approach toward accusations of sexual assault was dangerous, illiberal, and ultimately untenable.

It's Only Racism When You Do or Say It

Top UK Schools Reject Scholarship Funding for Poor White Boys

Kurt ZindulkaURT ZINDULKA
Brietbart London

Two top colleges in the UK rejected an offer to fund the education of poor white boys, for fear of violating anti-discrimination laws.  Winchester and Dulwich colleges turned down an offer from Professor Sir Bryan Thwaites, to donate £1 million towards the education of impoverished white boys.

The 96-year-old philanthropist professor had planned to leave the money to the schools in his will. Sir Bryan had attended both schools on scholarships as his parents could not afford the tuition fees for him and his brother.  Sir Bryan said that he wanted to donate the money because white boys from underprivileged areas are falling behind boys from other ethnicities.

“It’s an extremely important issue of interpretation of the law. I have done a lot for both schools over the years and have been closely involved in them. All the more, therefore, do I feel that both schools have made a strategic mistake in their interpretation of legislation”, Sir Bryan told The Times.

Winchester College said in response: “The trustees are clear, having consulted widely, that acceptance of a bequest of this nature would neither be in the interests of the school as a charity nor the specific interests of those it aims to support through its work . . . the school does not see how discrimination on grounds of a boy’s colour could ever be compatible with its values.”

Joe Spence, the master of Dulwich college said that he is “resistant to awards made with any ethnic or religious criteria. Bursaries are an engine of social mobility and they should be available to all who pass our entrance examinations, irrespective of their background.”

In August of 2018, British rapper Stormzy said that he would fund the education costs for two black to attend the University of Cambridge.

Hypocrisy Versus Integrity

Gallio Cared for None of These Things

Douglas Wilson
Blog&Mablog

Introduction

In an earlier NQN post, I said that to be a gay Christian was to be a hypocrite, by definition. What could be the basis for saying things like that? The guy who says that he is a gay Christian, although committed to remaining celibate, is a hypocrite? And he is a hypocrite because he doesn’t formulate it precisely the way I said he should, which is to say that he is a Christian who experiences gay temptations? Right. Exactly so.

In short, a gay Christian is a hypocrite while a Christian with gay temptations is not? Correct. Aside from the problems associated with the history of the word gay, that summary is a good enough.

For some this is an inside baseball debate between American League fans and National League fans debating the value of a designated hitter. But it is not that kind of debate at all.

Or take a scriptural example. The casual observer might be forgiven if he thought to himself that everybody might want to adopt the posture of Gallio. “But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters” (Acts 18:15). Deal me out, in other words.

And this is why you can’t. This is why you have to deal with this issue honestly. Those who do not deal with it honestly will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Cor. 6:98-11; Gal. 5:19-21).

What the Issue is Not

The issue is not whether there can be such a thing as a besetting sin, or a recurring sin, or remaining sin that travels in predictable patterns. Christians are never to be dismissed as hypocrites simply because of a struggle with remaining sin.

White Colonialists At It Again

Sexular Colonialism

If my male, pale and stale heart could be warmed, it would be so by the growing realisation that the baton of colonialism, long the historic burden of the conservative, Christianised West, can now been handed to the woke Left in our culture.
The evidence is coming in in spades.  The progressive narrative has created, and is the process of enforcing, a new colonialism and, in a great irony, is enforcing it upon those it once championed.  For so long the progressive side of politics accused the historical nations of the West of colonising ethnic minorities, but suddenly they’ve signed up to the agenda.
And it’s all come down to sex.  The progressives have their own version of cultural assimiliation – let’s call it Sexular Colonialism.  What else to make of what is becoming a widening conflict between the self-aware sexular culture of big money, big government and big sport in the West, and many of those who are the actual players on the field?
In the wake of Israel Folau’s injudicious Instagram message, there has been a growing response from other rugby players of Islander backgrounds, who are backing his stance upon pain of sanction by their own unions.
Go through the list of those who have backed them.  Not a Smith or Jones in sight.  But plenty of names you can’t pronounce quickly and that you know come from Pacific Islander and other ethnic backgrounds.
So we get this from England’s Australian born Billy Vinupola, as quoted in The Guardian:
Screen Shot 2019-04-14 at 10.39.25 am
What was the UK response to this, frankly, historical orthodox view of Christian sexual ethics, minus the obvious “pleasure principle”?
Well Channel 4 cut him from their commentary team.  The Rugby Football Union has hauled him before a disciplinary board.  And when he took to the pitch to play this weekend he was roundly booed by spectators, and the tannoy speakers at the ground were pumping out  “It’s Raining Men“, just to make sure he got the point.  In other words, we’re watching you mate, and don’t forget it.
Well it might be raining men, but the men it’s raining are predominantly white, secular, well-heeled, well-educated men for whom sexual identity IS the foundational identity of a human being, and who have the power to enforce that perspective in the public square.  It’s Sexular Colonialism big time.
Now don’t get me wrong.  I do think Izzy blew it. I do think that we have all sorts of identity markers in our lives, and as a dreaded Pale/Male/Stale I’ve certainly learned to recognise this  And as a Christian I’m not so pious to airily wave my hand and say “Well, my identity is in Christ”.
Yes it is, theologically and in reality, but that’s not how I always manage to live my life, and in some senses other markers are important.  If we didn’t think identity markers were important then we wouldn’t have such clear gender definitions grounded in creation.
But notice what Billy said?
There just comes a point when you insult what I grew up believing in that you say enough is enough.
For Billy, for Israel, and for a host of other players in the spotlight, they’ve come to realise that their deep ethno-religious frameworks upon which they have built their lives have to bow down the idol of sexual identity.  There is no option if they wish to continue in their employ.
These other markers – ethno-religious -, for so long championed by the Left, are now being viewed as barriers to progress.  And we know how the Left treats barriers to progress.  There is a pecking order when it comes to identity, and race and religion sit squarely below sex.   It must be quashed.
Sexular Colonialism right there.
Still not convinced?  So a friend working in the public service in our home state tells me that after a long intense PD day on how to promote sexual diversity in his workplace, he approached the organisers and said that many people within the Australian indigenous community would have a problem with this.  The response?  “Well they will just have to get on board.”
Get on board.   The bulk of the indigenous community who hold to traditional values in terms of marriage, will have to get on board the whitefella’s agenda.  Since when did that become anything but colonialism? If they don’t get on board, they’re gonna get run over.
Sexular Colonialism is also the reason why 600 Muslim families, of assorted racial backgrounds, have been protesting outside government schools in the UK, where a radical sexual curriculum is being rolled out across schools.  The very cohort who the Left has championed for so long are now firmly in the same cohort’s crosshairs.
You would assume it would make the new colonists stop and think.  And it does.  They stop, think, and then say “You’re wrong, get on board.”
Now none of this is to say that there are not those within these communities who take a different approach to sex.  But what it is to say is that when it comes to pushing a dominant cultural barrow that is alien to those outside the West, the Left is as good as any at doing it.  And they’re hypocrites for denying it.
The other thing I’ve noted is the sheer bravery – if not always entirely sensible – of those such as Billy Vunipola.  For all of those of you who wish to tear him down, I’d like to see you deal with anywhere near the public pressure and scorn that he is facing. You’d curl up in a ball and cry in a minute.
He’s actually had time to watch how Folau has been scorned by the progressive narrative.  He’s seen the ridicule heaped upon Folau by the likes of Peter Fitzsimons and the ABC.  He’s realised that Folau’s career is dead in the water, and that the sensible thing to do – the thing he would feel under enormous pressure to do – would be to distance himself from Folau, or try to find reasons to support him while not supporting him at the same time.
What does he do?  He puts it all on the line.  Of course Billy has been praised time and time again for putting it all on the line for his football.  But for his faith?  Don’t even think about it.
If anyone wants to say “Yes, but” at this point, especially a Christian, then just project yourself to The Last Day and ask, will Billy be ashamed of saying what he said about God and sex and the gospel when he stands before Jesus?  If you can’t say “No” to that then perhaps you’ve been more colonised than you think.
And look, I don’t pretend that I would stand up and say what either of those two men said and I could find a way to consider it stupid, uneducated and not culturally savvy.  But I am pale, male and stale after all, that’s how we pale, male and stale types justify ourselves.
Screen Shot 2019-04-14 at 11.11.41 am
For the large cohort in the West that seems to be insulted by just about everything that ends up on social media that drops onto the insular safety of their iPhone, the fact that Billy can stand on a grass pitch in the middle of an oval being booed by fans, and then scorned by the public address system before the game has even begun, before knowing that he faces disciplinary procedures from his employer, is testament to his bravery.
And that’s for saying something far milder, with less sting in it, than Folau did. But Sexular Colonialism will have its way.  It must have its way.  Dissenting voices in the public square now know what they will face. It’s both sad and admirable to realised that it’s those who have already emotionally muscled up to public scorn on the football field for their skin colour, who are emotionally muscling up for another round of colonialism.
Meanwhile the male, pale and stale of us sit in the comfort of the stands munching on a pie.
Steve McAlpine is approaching an age which would be a more than useful Test batting average. He is a pastor of Providence Church in WA, is married to Jill and together they have two children, Sophie and Declan. Steve grew up in Northern Ireland, but apart from rolling his “r’s”, and talking too fast, is a West Aussie through and through. He has degrees in journalism and theology and enjoys combining the two through writing and blogging, especially on matters of church planting and cultural negotiation for Christians in the increasingly complex West.

The Old Nag "Shut Your Mouth" Gallops Once More Round the Track

The Game More Fierce Than Rugby

The Israel Folau controversy is highlighting a battleground fiercer than any game of rugby.
Fairfax journalist Peter FitzSimons is leading the tackle count again Izzy Folau. In his latest burst, FitzSimons argues that the only issue here is one of Israel Folau breaking his contract:
“If you cock your ear to the west, you can right now hear the thundering of keyboards, as columnist after columnist, shock jock after shock jock form up thundering rants about how this whole thing is a matter of freedom of speech, and religious freedom.
Oh yes. Despite the demonstrable damage done by Folau last year by putting up homophobic posts – and if saying gays are going to burn in hell isn’t homophobic, pray tell, what does it take? – their genuine position is he should be able to do exactly the same, ad infinitum, until the game and its finances are a smoking ruin.
Because it is about freedom of speech, and freedom of religion! I repeat, it is no such thing.”
There are some flaws in Fitzy’s game plan, as well one strong mode of attack.
Let me explain.

Self-Deceit On A Grand Scale

Racism Alive and Well in New Zealand

The National President of the Tertiary Education Union [TEU] has put out a statement which reveals how that particular organization propagates racism on a grand scale.  The grand irony of their "hate-speech" is that its position employs racial discrimination at the very centre of their thinking and speech.

On the recent debacle which unfolded at Massey University, the TEU has this to say:

To all TEU members at Massey University for information

Kia ora koutou,

My criticism of the Vice-Chancellor is about how she handled the cancellation of a recent politics club event. Clearly, it could have been handled a great deal better than what has been revealed in recently published emails.

For starters, the Vice-Chancellor should have spoken to those involved, including students, and worked collectively to find a solution to what is a complicated issue, one that evidently played on her conscience. She also should not have floated the idea of withholding funds from student bodies as a way of exerting influence. Such steps are not be acceptable in any circumstances.

What’s most regrettable though, is that the Vice-Chancellor did not just come out and say that anyone failing to respect the values of Massey University, particularly its obligations as a Te Tiriti led organisation, is not welcome to share those views on campus. Yes, they are free to speak their mind elsewhere, but not at any public institution that prides itself on rejecting the sort of loathsome, race-based views propagated by Hobson’s Pledge. Had she done that, she would have had my backing.

That is because the Tertiary Education Union Te Hautū Kahurangi is also a Te Tiriti led organisation. We take our obligations extremely seriously and, as national president, I am constantly looking at ways to improve the way our organisation is run in order to uphold the values expressed in Te Tiriti. Should meetings or events be organised that are not compatible with these values, then I would have every right to say they should not happen under the banner of the TEU. This would not be in violation of free speech, because the organisers of said event would be entitled to air their views elsewhere. Instead, it would be a strong statement of what our organisation stands for.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi promotes a set of values that must become an integral part of how we behave as New Zealanders, and how our public institutions are run. We must continue working for a future where these values are upheld and strengthened by our right to free speech – and a future where showing leadership by putting the values of a public organisation ahead of the out-dated, contemptible views of one person, is seen as the right thing to do.

With that in mind, let’s start focusing on how good it is to see the seriousness with which the Vice-Chancellor takes the responsibilities that result from actively acknowledging Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundation for the relationship between Māori and the Crown. I only wish she could have stuck to this position publicly at the time this debacle first surfaced.

The views the Vice-Chancellor was seeking to keep off campus have no place in Aotearoa New Zealand. They should not be encouraged, respected, nor accepted, especially not under the banner of free speech. All public institutions should take the advice of the Human Rights Commission and give nothing to racism.

Sandra Grey
National President
So, let's get this straight: Public Enemy No 1--Dr Don Brash--is alleged to be a flagrant racist for insisting that race should have nothing to do with citizenship and voting.  The view of the TEU, however,  is that race and racial distinctions must be at the heart of what Massey University stands for.

When a trade union becomes so perverted in mind, evil stalks the Public Square.  And it's not Dr Brash who is the culprit.  The TEU is manifestly promoting racism--and institutionalised racism at that.  It is guilty of the kind of Orwellian double-speak that would endorse their particular racist views as a "greater good".

And since the NZ Human Rights Commission has declared we should "give nothing to racism", we urge the Commission to follow its own advice and haul Sandra Grey and the TEU into the dock for their racist, "contemptible views".  What is sauce for the goose . . . and all that.

Bigger Than Texas

Hypocrisy On Steroids

At last--there is going to be some serious opposition to "conversion therapy" in New Zealand.  The idea that one can change one's sexual orientation back to its genetic constructs must be outlawed.  Young Labour and Young Greens are joining together to push the government to make the practice verboten.

We find ourselves in substantial agreement with these young warriors.  There is one problem, though.  They ooze with special pleading, which is a polite way of saying they appear to be rampant hypocrites.
Young Labour and the Young Greens are throwing their weight behind calls for the government to ban gay conversion therapy.   Thousands of people marched in Auckland's Pride Parade in February this year.  The two youth wings say the practice is unethical and inhumane and they have teamed up to launch a petition today urging Parliament to outlaw it.

Conversion therapies can include any form of treatment or psychotherapy that aims to change a person's sexual orientation, eliminate or suppress same-sex attraction.  [RadioNZ]
Trans-genderism is presently the most invasive and damaging form of "conversion therapy" known to mankind.

Beware The Dangers of Hobby-Horsing

Full Disclosure Needed

Now that the dust has settled in the matter of Alabama's election of a US Senator a number of broader issues have bubbled up in the Christian community.  Hopefully, these matters will be confronted faithfully by the saints.

Firstly, some background.  Roy Moore was put forward as the Republican candidate in a special election for the US Senate.  He was accused by a number of women of immoral, if not illegal sexual activity forty years ago.  Although he had held high public office in Alabama over a number of years, nothing like this had surfaced before.  It turns out he was narrowly defeated.  If he had won Christians would have been involved in sending him to represent them in the US Senate.

Thus a debate began amongst Christians, particularly leaders and mover-and-shakers.  On the one side were those who insisted that whatever breaches of morality occurred forty years ago on the part of candidate Roy Moore it was time to apply some kind of statute of limitations.  Others added that an allegation does not a conviction make nor proven guilt establish.

The Gospel Coalition (TGC) is a group of evangelical Christian leaders who support each other both formally and informally and who work together on issues of mutual and shared interest in the United States.  A lot of their work has to do with promoting Jesus Christ and the Christian faith in the public square.  A number of the known leaders have spoken out strongly and publicly against Roy Moore and excoriated Christian for supporting him.

Let us grant them their case. Roy Moore, alleged sexual pervert, unfit to serve let alone honoured.  Let all Christians remove their hankies from their pockets and hold them firmly over their noses.  Not so fast.  Maybe, but maybe not.  Why?

Hypocritical Lips

Secularists and Atheists at Prayer

We have watched our Parliament going through the hypocritical motions of amending the traditional prayer used to open all Parliamentary sessions.  The current prayer reads:

Almighty God,

Humbly acknowledging our need for Thy guidance in all things, and laying aside all private and personal interests, we beseech Thee to grant that we may conduct the affairs of this House and of our country to the glory of Thy holy name, the maintenance of true religion and justice, the honour of the Queen, and the public welfare, peace, and tranquillity of New Zealand, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
The proposed version reads:
Almighty God, we give thanks for the blessings which have been bestowed on New Zealand.

Laying aside all personal interests, we pray for guidance in our deliberations, that we may conduct the affairs of this House with wisdom and humility, for the public welfare and peace of New Zealand. Amen.
Both versions are a hypocritical abomination.

Douglas Wilson's Letter From Moscow

Lord of Karma

You Reap What You Sow

Douglas Wilson
Blog&Mablog

As the old saying goes, if they didn’t have double standards, they’d have no standards at all.

We should begin by recognizing that the sinful heart of man is everywhere, and affects everything we do. No one gets a pass—conservatives, liberals, and all in-betweeners. The Church is not excluded because the Church is charged to welcome sinners, and part of the price of this is that sinners actually come.

No institution or movement should be charged on the basis of sinful or scandalous behavior that appears there. Were we to start doing that, everybody would be vulnerable to accusation. The issue is rather the problem of being two-faced—demanding that others deal with what you won’t deal with.

Contrary to popular misunderstanding, the Lord did not require us to “judge not.” His teaching on this was not to judge with unequal balances, not to judge with a double standard. The judgment you apply to others will be applied to you.

Douglas Wilson's Letter From Moscow (About Catechisms)

The Rats of Moria

Douglas Wilson
Blog&Mablog

You cannot successfully deny in real time what you robustly affirm in the catechism.

For the Christian, because his basic catechetical truths are noble and upright (about how we are supposed to live), the gap between his profession and experience is uphill. Hypocrisy is naturally an embarrassment because it represents a failure to attain.

But because the catechetical truths affirmed by the sexual revolution are suspended over a great abyss, like Wil E Coyote holding an anvil, their hypocrisy problem is entirely different. Their catechism affirms that obedience to every random sexual impulse will be totally great, self-actualizing, fulfilling, natural, life-affirming, and helpful in the process of self-discovery. You know—as the eager ego goes spelunking down in the caverns of chthonic desire, in order to search out the wonders and complexities of orgasmic genderlusts. But it turns out the Rats of Moria live down there.

And so this explains the reaction to the revelations about Harvey Weinstein. Anybody who knows anything about the septic system of Hollywood knows that he was living in fulfillment of the catechism. They have these great massive pumps so that they can have the septic tanks installed at the very highest levels, up where the top talents and power producers live.

So the problem was not that he failed to live up to a high and lofty standard. The problem was that obedience to the catechism is a lot creepier in real life than was promised by the catechism.

Oozing Slime

Green Rectitude

The Greens in New Zealand have always clothed themselves in layers of oozing sanctimony.  They have persuaded themselves that they are humanity's true and loyal friend.  They have sought to persuade us that they would never be captive to crudities like money or capitalists.  They have borne all the brickbats thrown at their madness and blindness to economic realities--and have done so as a badge of Green honour.  They, and they alone, are the pure defenders of Gaia, the Environment, the Cosmos, of Being Itself.  Ad nauseous etceteras.

But the Greens, it turns out, are just another radical left wing political party, seeking to win popularity by spending citizens' money left, right, and off centre.  They see themselves as the last-man-er-person-standing up for the destitute, the dishevelled, and the deprived.  They have the strongest sense of entitlement we have seen in a long, long time.  And they are going to make you pay.  Now their oozing green effluent is sprayed not upon Mother Gaia but upon Homeless Charlie.

The Greens are in a fight for their political lives and their primary objective is to take votes off Labour, the erstwhile socialist party, which exists primarily at the behest and beckoning of the unions.

Recent days have shown us just how impure and poisonous the Greens have become.  Its co-leader, Metiria Turei has behaved so badly that even the greenist Herald has called for her resignation from Parliament.  A recent editorial states:

Hypocrisy--Thou Art a Jewel

For Corporate Social Hypocrisy, See Unilever’s CEO

A multinational boss fancies himself King of the World.

By Deroy Murdock
National Review Online

Polman is CEO of Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch consumer-products multinational. Managing a corporation that operates in 100 countries, markets 400 different brands, employs 169,000 people, and grossed $56 billion in 2016 should be enough to keep Polman at his desk. But this Dutchman has had his mind on far bigger things since he took the helm in 2009.

“I am really more interested in development,” Polman declared in February.

Polman co-authored a 2014 essay in which he announced that capitalism has “proved dysfunctional in important ways. It often encourages shortsightedness, contributes to wide disparities between the rich and the poor, and tolerates the reckless treatment of environmental capital.”

Polman has directed his employees to avoid a singular focus on ROI [Return on Investment] and instead implement USLP: Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan. Its latest annual report trumpets the slogan: “making sustainable living commonplace.”

CEOs need not aspire to be Gordon Gekko. But they need not strive to be Mahatma Gandhi, either. Polman fancies himself as the latter. “As CEO of Unilever, my personal mission is to galvanize the company to be an effective force for good.”  The liberal media love Polman’s shift from generating black ink to pursuing a crunchy, green Weltanschauung.

Public Hypocrisy on Steriods

Pedophilia Is Not Evil . . .

If our "Friends" Are Involved Or Think It's OK

D.C. McCallister
The Federalist

The flamboyant and highly controversial Milo Yiannopoulos is out. He’s no longer speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference. His book deal with Simon & Schuster has been cancelled, and he has resigned from his job as senior editor at Breitbart News.

Why? After being asked to speak at CPAC, Milo’s opponents on the Right resurfaced a video from last year in which he seemed to endorse pedophilia. Milo has made a reasonable case that he does not approve of child molestation and that his words were taken out of context.

Regardless, endorsements of Milo receded like the tide before a tsunami. Everyone pulled away or basked in his “downfall,” as Bill Maher has done after facing fallout of his own for inviting the outspoken gay provocateur on his show.  “Nothing could serve the liberal cause better than having him exposed,” Maher said. “Sunlight is the best disinfectant. You’re welcome.” That says it all. It’s not about right and wrong. It’s not about exposing sexual immorality. It’s about a political agenda.

Milo Is Like A Rorschach Ink Blot

My purpose is not to write an apologetic for Milo, whom I disagree with on many points. My purpose is to comment on the reaction to Milo and how it’s riddled, not only with double standards, but with the hysteria of a witch-hunt that, as Maher admitted, will embolden progressives on the Left and weaken conservatives and libertarians on the Right.

Douglas Wilson's Letter From Moscow

The Heave Ho With Milo

Douglas Wilson
Blog&Mablog

So then, Milo Yiannopoulos, world-class provocateur, had himself a week. After a pretty hot run, the bad guys finally got him, and they got him with their most powerful weapon—to wit, indignant hypocrisy.

Of course the hypocrisy of the Left goes without saying. We know all about that. We factor it into all our equations. No one is surprised anymore. We don’t even get out of our seats. We yawn and look away.

But the hypocrisy of conservatives still gets results. Among other things, Milo was disinvited from a speaking gig at CPAC, the convention for non-conserving conservatives. We are at the place in our decadence where an outrageous flamer had been invited to speak to the bastion of traditional values—which was okay because the surrounding culture mandates that we be okay with that kind of thing, and conservatives are nothing if not obedient to the demands of progressivism, and it is now against the law to use flamer retardant fabric in anything—and yet it was the work of two minutes to get them to withdraw the invitation to speak because it came out that the good Milo had said something considered immoral by the lynch mob. Immoral? What curious words you people use. By what standard? Who says? Why?

We Stand With Vlad On This One

New Zealand's Hypocrisy Has a Nasty Smell

Imagine a situation where New Zealand took the view that orphan Maori children could be adopted only by Maori families.  Oh, that's right.  It pretty much has been the reality for over ten years.  No problems.  Sounds about right.

Now change the circumstance.  Imagine a foreign government stipulating that orphans adopted out of that country into New Zealand had to be placed with stable heterosexual families, with a normal mother and father, rather than a homosexual "couple" or trans-sexual social arrangement.  Nah.  No go.  Why?  What's going on?
Russia banned single Kiwis and same sex couples from adopting Russian children when New Zealand legalised gay marriage. Moscow is refusing to budge on the ban.  And it is insisting that Russian officials have a say in future care placements within New Zealand if the adoption doesn't work out.  The move is another heart-breaking disappointment to a handful of Kiwi families who have been waiting since 2006 for officials to break a diplomatic impasse.
We have no doubt the "diplomatic impasse" is New Zealand's fault.  We are acting in a grossly hypocritical manner.  Racist adoption restrictions appear hunky-dory-OK when it comes to Maori children.  But ethical strictures on adoption are not, when it comes to Russian orphans.

It Pays To Take the Log Out of One's Own Eye First

Not All Bullies And Their Victims Are Equal

. . . In Meryl Streep’s Eyes

Dana
Patterico

Meryl Streep’s unloading on Donald Trump was pretty rich, on a number of levels. Was anyone surprised by her rant? If you were, then you haven’t been paying attention and shame on you. What else would you expect during a self-congratulatory show where a liberal icon has a captive audience full of fellow believers still collectively trying to figure out how the gods turned against them. Don’t they know who we are?!! To me, Streep’s tired tirade was about as surprising as Trump’s complete inability to resist taking the bait and keep his yap shut. Both utterly predictable. Both absurd.

I don’t really want to take too much time examining the stunningly insular arrogance of a multi-millionaire, but hey, she got on the soapbox, so just for kicks, let’s look at a few of her comments. Be careful not to step in the puddle of dripping condescension:
So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.
Oh boy, those Tinsel Town Saviors are ready to save you from suffering through a pedestrian sport where 70% of the players are black, and another one that has been described as the “most racially and internationally diverse sporting organization in the world.” Instead, Streep believes you prefer a steady diet from Tinsel Town’s visual buffet of glorified gun violence or objectification of women. You choose. It’s a rich irony, don’t you think, that a wealthy, lily-white Patrician beauty seems wholly oblivious to her condescending dismissal of a segment of the population who have, in large part, found their way out of generational poverty and gone on to great success through these chosen sports? Oh well, high-brow, low-brow…

My Way or the Highway

Beneath the Surface of Secular Humanism

We  once heard of a Professor of Systematic Theology who frequently employed the epithet, "Ah, Consistency, thou art a jewel."  Consistency is a fundamental characteristic of the Christian world-view.  Since God is God, His Law-Word governs all.  What is holy and ethical on Mars is indeed what holds equally true for Venus.  The whole universe is commanded to love the Lord its God with heart, soul, strength, and mind.

Thus, in the Christian world-view, whilst consistency is a jewel, inconsistency is hypocrisy.  In the post-modern world (the crowning glory of secular humanism) there is no such thing as hypocrisy.  Not really.  There are only perspectives, and all perspectives are implicitly equally valid, or ethical, or true.  The only sin, it is alleged, is to deny that truth is perspectival, subjective, and relative.  Oxymoronic, don't you think.

It is not surprising that the cutting edge of secularist thought and action is riddled with petty hypocrisies.

An Idiot In Search of Fame

On A Ship of Fools

We in New Zealand were treated recently to a right, royal display of hypocritical tomfoolery.  One of our political representatives has taken the cake for hypocritical cant.

Said representative, Green MP Marama Davidson has been taken to task in an opinion piece in one of our daily newspapers.  The occasion was Davidson's trotting off to Israel to protest that country's application of international law in patrollingl its seas to protect itself from water borne attacks by Islamist mujaheddin.

Now, it does not need too much intelligence to sense just the slightest whiff of hypocrisy here.

Iconoclasm and Hypocrisy

Inconsistency Writ Large

Here is Alan Duff's take on modern attempts to erase the past so as to make ourselves more pure in the present.

Not For Us To Retry Crimes of Past Eras

According to Maori lecturer Steve Elers, the name of his university - Massey - should be changed because back in history Prime Minister William Massey was a racist who believed in the superiority of the white race, had a particular dislike for Chinese and no doubt looked down on Maori.

The alleged "white supremacist" of the early 20th Century is being judged by present-day views. Not only does Mr Elers want to revise history, he wants to reverse it. Come on, mate. When would it stop? Different Maori war chiefs, pre-European and post, believed their tribes were superior to others and went out attacking other tribes all over the land. (It wasn't a country then.) Should we toss them into the hall of shame?
