Hysterical Foxes Running the Hen House

From Climate Change to Coronavirus

We Are All Victims of Deep State Hysteria

James Delingpole
Breitbart London

If you want to know why the world is in such a mess, don’t blame the feckless politicians, blame the paranoid, credulous, insidiously leftist Deep State.

This certainly seems to be true where the United Kingdom is concerned, as I’ve learned from two damning pieces — one by an anonymous Civil Service insider at Lockdown Sceptics; the other one in The Critic, titled ‘The BLM Takeover of Whitehall.’  Both are simultaneously depressing and illuminating. No matter how useless Boris Johnson and his ministers are, you realise, their doctrinaire leftist Civil Servants are both far more inept and far more dangerous.

Here’s a flavour of the Black Lives Matter article:
But just like U.S. federal administrators in Washington (according to City Journal), the mandarins in Whitehall have become partisans of “Critical Race Theory” and its radical tenets about “systemic racism”, “white privilege”, and “white fragility”. They have adopted this left-wing ideology, promoted it, and are now institutionalising it throughout the Civil Service, root and branch, using new internal organisations such as “Project Race” and the “Race Ambassadors Network”. Your taxes have paid for these views: it’s about time you saw in the press what you were getting for your money.
And here is what for me is the killer paragraph by the Covid Civil Servant writing at Lockdown Sceptics.

Deep State Masters of the Universe

The People Versus the Bureaucrats

Way back in the good old days bureaucrats used to have a name which encapsulated their place and role in society.  In those days we used to call them "civil servants".  What that meant in a general sense was that bureaucrats had a duty and responsibility to carry out the rules, regulations, laws, and decisions of the elected representatives who were chosen to rule and govern by the people.

The people's choice was made manifest in public elections.  The people chose their representatives; the chosen legislated, and the bureaucrats ensured that the laws were applied.  Or so the story ran.

No longer--at least not in nations like the United States.  What has become more and more obvious is that true power resides in the Deep State.  It is the (hidden and nameless) bureaucrats who determine who is fit to govern, what laws are to be passed, and who maintain mastery and control over how the law will be applied, if at all.

Inez Feltscher Stepman  describes how this is being played out in the struggle between the current President, Donald Trump and the Deep State bureaucrats who long ago decided that Trump was extremely dangerous--not to the Republic, but to them--and, therefore, had to be removed, one way or another.

A Scent of Burning Flesh

Democrats Have Been Playing With Fire

Many of our readers will be aware that allegations have been made that the US government, under President Obama's watch, deliberately spied upon presidential candidate and his campaign personnel prior to the US election, and afterwards right up until the time Obama left office.  (It may still be going on.)

This has led to speculation about the Deep State, where politicized US intelligence personnel have used their positions to engage in partisan political "warfare" against a US politician for no other reason than these bureaucrats and government employees did not like Trump's policies or positions.  It is certainly true that there have been numerous leaks to the media, ostensibly from Trump's staff, of conversations and communications.  We recall, for example, when Trump was "doing the rounds" calling the leaders of other nations for a chat, how intimate (first hand) details of their conversations were suddenly broadcast by the media.  The details of the phone conversation between Trump and the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull is one example.  How did the media get intimate details of that phone conversation so quickly as to emblazon it upon their mastheads within a few hours?

Mandarins, Oligarchs, and the Deep State

A Few Heads on a Platter Would Do the Trick

Several stories and speculations are starting to surface about "Deep State" forces working to control the new US President.  In general terms, Deep State is a loose term referring to the Federal bureaucracy--or members thereof--who are opposed to the President and are working either to undermine him, neuter him, or control him.

It remains to be seen how successful Trump will be in doing battle against these forces.  Up front right now are the leaks to the media over confidential, recorded conversations--leading eventually to the resignation of Michael Flynn, a Trump appointee.  Investigations are focusing on the leaks as coming from the US Justice Department.

Now, another alleged Deep State perfidy has come to light.

Letter From America (More About the "Deep State")

The Deep State Targets Trump

Patrick J. Buchanan
The American Conservative

When Gen. Michael Flynn was forced to resign as national-security advisor, Bill Kristol purred his satisfaction, “If it comes to it, prefer the deep state to the Trump state.”  To Kristol, the permanent regime, not the elected president and his government, is the real defender and rightful repository of our liberties.  Yet it was this regime, the deep state, that carried out what Eli Lake of Bloomberg calls “The Political Assassination of Michael Flynn.”

And what were Flynn’s offenses?

In December, when Barack Obama expelled 35 Russian diplomats, Flynn spoke to the Russian ambassador. He apparently counseled the envoy not to overreact, saying a new team would be in place in a few weeks and would review U.S.-Russian relations.  “That’s neither illegal nor improper,” writes Lake.

Vladimir Putin swiftly declared that there would be no reciprocal expulsions and U.S. diplomats and their families would be welcome at the Kremlin’s Christmas and New Year’s parties.  Diplomatic crisis averted. “Great move … (by V. Putin),” tweeted Trump, “I always knew he was very smart.”

But apparently, this did not sit well with the deep state.
