UN LGBT Expert Wants to Punish Religious Opponents

NEW YORK, April 17 (C-Fam) One of the great debates at the UN over the last few decades has been over how to wedge the LGBT issue into the UN dialogue. Member states were largely uninterested. Conservative and religiously minded countries knew the issue was a radicalizing one.

The debate tended to play itself out in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, far from New York headquarters where conservative western NGOs can play a more active role in the debate.

In Geneva, year in and year out, Brazil would play stalking horse for the pro-gay European countries. Annually, Brazil would propose language that would place “sexual orientation and gender identity” as a new category of non-discrimination. Each year it was defeated.

The issue came to fruition in 2016 with the adoption of a resolution calling for a report on violence against gays and called for the appointment of an “independent expert” to develop this report, someone who can travel around the world gathering information, making statements, and generally pushing governments toward acceptance of SOGI into non-discrimination law.

The fears of opponents have played themselves out in recent years with the appointment of Costa Rican Victor Madrigal-Borloz as the “independent expert.” Madrigal has gone far beyond reporting on violence against gays.

We have been chuckling over the twirling dervishes being performed at Massey University at the moment.  A group defending the free speech rights of lesbians will soon be speaking on the Massey Campus, Wellington shortly--or so we are led to believe.  

Meghan Murphy, a Canadian feminist blogger who believes transgender rights endanger women, has been invited to speak at the campus' theatrette in November.  A radical feminist banned from Twitter for violating its hateful conduct policy will panel a ticketed event hosted by Massey University in Wellington.  [Stuff]

But this "event" has been vigorously opposed by a bunch of gender dysphoric folk.

Tallulah Farrar, College of Creative Arts Representative, said "concerning information" about the event had pushed her to lay a complaint. She "worried about the wellbeing and safety of students" if the event went ahead.

"This event is marketed as controversial, and will bring more radical, exclusionary, hateful voices onto our campus who we should not be welcoming. Being complicit in these kinds of conversations is akin to breeding hate towards members of our Massey community who are already marginalised."

Of course we support free-speech rights and thus believe that lesbian Meghan Murphy has every right along with her mates to speak about the conflicts between lesbians and the gender dysphoric.  We would argue that Massey's  commitment to free speech, however, would be more convincing if and when that institution opens its doors to groups and speakers promoting the free speech rights of males. 

Massey University you recall recently closed down a public meeting at which Dr Don Brash was invited to speak.

There is an ancient saying: when you sow to the wind, you risk reaping the whirlwind.  It is a metaphorical warning.  Another variant of the same sentiment is, what goes around comes around.  These patterns are manifestations of God's justice at work in the world.  

The lesbian worldview has been promoted as a glorification of the sisterhood.  Women within and amongst themselves are complete.  But now the whirlwind has come.  The sisterhood risks being struck down and brought to nothing by trans-genderism.  The latter is the self-same wind to which numerous women have sown over the years.  But this time the wind has returned in an altered garb and it tears at the paper-thin fabric of lesbianism.  It is showing it has the will and desire to make lesbianism null and void.

Once the lesbian movement could count on the socially liberal, the Chattering Classes, for support.  No longer.  They have abandoned the celebration of lesbianism and moved on to the next cause, the next iteration.  The next iteration is tearing down whatever constrains and binds.  It  is tearing down the protections and constraints and ideologies of lesbianism.  Beware the unintended consequences.  There is always a whirlwind following the wind.

One of the ways the Lord is sometimes pleased to destroy the power of evil and unbelief  is to foment quarreling and dissension amongst those who oppose His Messiah.  A house divided against itself cannot stand. 

One of the memes that has erupted over recent years is a staunch and angry rejection of what is called Conversion Therapy.  The ins and outs of such "therapy" need not concern us here.  But one thing is clear: the transgenderists by and large resent and resist the whole idea that Christians might be involved in encouraging people out of transgenderism.  Conversion therapy is therefore on the brink of being declared illegal in the UK.  There are voices starting to be raised in New Zealand asserting that it be likewise made illegal here.

But at the same time internecine war has broken out between lesbians and transgenderists.  Why? What is the problem?  Well, lesbians are rejecting transgenderism as a form of Conversion Therapy!  And they are right, at least from the position of insisting upon consistency and rejecting hypocrisy.

We told you it would happen, and it finally has. Conservatives long predicted that feminism and transgenderism were ultimately incompatible, but for a long time it seemed like the LGBT movement might just hold them together. Well, on Saturday that movement burst open, as lesbians led the parade in attacking transgenderism.

"Transactivism Erases Lesbians!" read a banner that temporarily led the Pride in London march in the heart of Britain's capital.
