India Performs 15.6 Million Abortions per Year

A new study finds that about 15.6 million abortions were performed in India in 2015, making the abortion rate in that country 47 abortions per 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 49.
The study is published at Lancet Global Health and was conducted by the pro-abortion rights Guttmacher Institute – which was founded by former Planned Parenthood President Alan Guttmacher – the Population Council of New Delhi, and the International Institute for Population Sciences.

According to the study, 81 percent of the abortions performed in India are via medication, and 14 percent are surgical abortions.

Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino explains that during a medication abortion – usually occurring within the first trimester – the mother takes Mifepristone (also known as RU-486), a drug that blocks the action of the hormone progesterone, which is naturally produced during pregnancy, to enable her to nourish the baby. Without progesterone, the lining of the mother’s uterus breaks down, and the baby dies inside her womb after being denied blood and nourishment.

Within the next day or two, the mother takes another drug called Misoprostol (also called Cytotec) that causes contractions and bleeding, forcing the baby from her uterus.

The study also finds that of the 48.1 million pregnancies in India in 2015, about half were unintended, leading to an unintended pregnancy rate of about 70 per 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 49. The researchers note India’s unintended pregnancy rate is comparable to those of Bangladesh (67) and Nepal (68) but lower than that of Pakistan (93).

Last time we checked we confirmed a belief held over many years: abortion actually kills females.  Worse, because sex-selection is a powerful motive for securing and obtaining an abortion in countries such as China and India, an argument can be made that abortion actually targets female babies and that globally (since China and India are the most populous nations on earth) more females suffer abortifacient murder than males.

Now we are forced to conclude that secularists believe even worse things.  Not only does the average secularist happily embrace females being targeted for abortion--as part of an inchoate lust for killing babies--but also he or she believes that women are by far the deadlier of the species when it comes to such evils.

The real “war on women” takes place on the battlefield where abortion clinics target baby girls for elimination, according to congressional testimony from Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, a human-rights group.  “Sex-selective abortion is the ultimate violence against females,” Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, told Breitbart News. “Aborting a baby just because she is a girl is the ultimate act of gender discrimination.”

On Thursday, April 14, a congressional hearing is being held before the House Judiciary Committee to debate the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA) of 2016, a bill aimed at reducing gender-based abortion in America. The bill is being opposed by abortion-giant Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other abortion-rights groups.

The United Nations estimates that some 200 million women are “demographically missing” in the world today due to sex-selective abortion.
