‘Deradicalisation’ of Terrorists Doesn’t Work

A former member of al-Qaeda turned MI6 spy said that there “is no such thing as a rehabilitated jihadist” and that efforts by the British authorities to deradicalise convicted terrorists will not work.

Aimen Dean, who joined the Mujahideen at the age of fifteen and was later recruited into al-Qaeda by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who helped mastermind the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York, said that he doesn’t “believe in deradicalisation”.

The former terrorist, who went on to work as a spy for the British intelligence service MI6, told The Telegraph that Islamist terrorists are “extremely treacherous” and that if they don’t confess and help to do “damage” to their jihadist cause of their own volition like he did, “you can’t trust them.”

“The only way [a jihadist] can demonstrate that they’ve renounced violent extremism is if they have sung like a canary and provided damaging intelligence on the networks that recruited them,” said Dean.

We have seen this pattern before.  Extreme (albeit doctrinally faithful) Islamic groups practising their religion end up turning many adherents and followers away from their faith.  The latest evidence is Boko Haram's declining support in Nigeria.

Brutal acts at the hands of Boko Haram jihadis are leading Muslims to abandon their faith in the capital of Nigeria’s Borno State, the birthplace of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL)-linked terrorist group, an African media outlet reported on Wednesday.

“After a decade of fighting, many in Maiduguri are all the more horrified by the indiscriminate brutality that Boko Haram has committed in the name of Islam,” the African Argument news outlet reported.  “That violence is what led me to believe they were bad for religion,” Ibrahim Suleiman, a resident of the Borno capital of Maiduguri, told the media outlet. “They preached hatred and divided people … Their jihad has failed.   People are boycotting the mosques,” he added. “People are afraid of the bombs, but they also no longer trust religious leaders as before.””  [Breitbart News]

A gang of 12 mostly-Muslim men from the Rotherham area have appeared in court to face 45 sexual abuse offences against eight girls under the age of 16.  The men are accused of rape, indecent assault, the supply of controlled drugs, and false imprisonment as part of Operation Stovewood, which was set up in the wake of the Rotherham grooming gang scandal.

The men, all aged between 33 and 38, allegedly committed the crimes between 1998 and 2003, The Star reports.  Amjal Rafiq, 38, Nabeel Kurshid, 34, Iqlak Yousaf, 33, Mohammed Imran Ali Akhtar, 36, Tanweer Ali, 36, Aftab Hussain, 38, and Abid Saddiq, 36, all appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court Wednesday.  They were joined by co-defendants Sharaz Hussain, 33, Salah Ahmed El-Hakam, 38, Mohammed Ashan, 33, Masaeud Malik, 33, and Waseem Khaliq, 33.

Nine of them were granted bail, while Mr. Ashan, Mr. Malik, and Mr. Khaliq were remanded in custody after appearing via video link. All 12 will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on December 1st.

Senior Investigating Officer, Paul Williamson, told the Star: “We have now charged 21 men with over 94 child sexual abuse offences and expect this number to increase as more victims come forward.  Officers are investigating more than 80 suspects and with the support of partner agencies, are currently engaging with 235 victims.

Why bother rescuing thousands of children from rape if it might mean enduring claims of anti-Muslim racism?

A new investigation by the Daily Express has found that the massive Rotherham child sex exploitation ring whose discovery rocked England two years ago is not only still in operation, but is as strong as ever. Reports from social workers, police, residents, and abuse victims all said the same thing: It’s still happening on an “industrial scale.”

In 2014, an independent inquiry led by Alexis Jay, a former senior social worker, found that men of Pakistani origin had groomed at least 1,400 young girls for sexual exploitation over the previous 16 years. These girls, as young as 12, were variously raped, abducted, tortured, and forced into prostitution. Keep in mind, this happened—and is still happening—in the heart of England, not some far-flung banana republic.

Random outlier, or the centre?  When it comes to Islam, the Western Commentariat fervently believe that centrist-Islam is roughly equivalent (in social behaviour and societal impact) to Christianity and Judaism.  Christians and Jews have a weekly holy day; so do Muslims.  Christians and Jews gather at their local house of worship to declare praise to their God; Muslims do likewise, except they adore a different deity.  But, general equivalence between the religions applies.  

What, then, does the Commentariat hold when the world is awash with Islamic violence (Muslim on Muslim; Muslim upon Jew; Muslim upon Christian; and Muslim upon Western secularists)?  The West's resounding response is to argue that such violence is not genuinely Islamic.  It is not the centre.  It is the random outlier.  It is Islamic extremism.  It is not genuinely Islamic.

We blogged recently on the brutal murder in Glasgow of an Islamic adherent by another Islamic adherent.  Now, Muslim violence perpetrated upon other Muslims is de rigueur  in many parts of the world, so its reasonable to expect it in the UK, as well as in NZ.  In this case, the violence, the brutal murder was religiously motivated.  Clearly so.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil

One of the most disturbing consequences of large numbers of  (mainly Islamic) migrants into the UK and Europe has been the willing complicity of authorities in covering up migrant crime.  We have seen, for example, the Rotherham Syndrome in the UK, where civil authorities (police, health authorities, and city council employees and officials) turned a blind eye to the systematic sexual exploitation of young girls by gangs of immigrant (mainly Pakistani) men.

If you are unaware of this travesty, a quick Google search on "Rotherham" will bring you up to speed, as will Wikipedia.

The apologia offered for ignoring the criminal activity was to plead fear--fear that committing police and community resources to identifying, detecting, punishing, and stamping out these horrific crimes would lead to charges of racism being made against the authorities.  The stifling effect of PC censorship meant that whilst plenty of officials knew what was going on, they turned Nelson's patched eye toward it.

It has now come out that this problem was not isolated to a rogue city in the UK.  In fact, authorities across the European Union have been systematically covering up migrant crime, particularly sexual crime.  Islamic men have been preying upon European women and the authorities have been keeping it quiet.

This has produced some bizarre, unexpected outcomes.
