The coldest winters in the US were 1977/1978/1979 during the global cooling scare. The hottest summers (by far) were during the 1930s.
We have always had extreme temperatures, and it is astonishing that any politician could be so dishonest or misinformed as to state otherwise.

In January 1977, it snowed in Miami:
I remember the winter of 76/77 well. I was a freshman in college. I had to use my lighter to heat the key to unfreeze my Triumph GT6+ door locks. Ice coated the inside of the dorm room windows nearly all winter. This occurred in Tennessee. You know, in the South.
