The Promised Land, Part IV

Israel Must Return to the God of Its Ancient Fathers

Christians get confused over Israel.  We are commanded to have a longing for God's ancient people that they might come to Christ (Messiah), believe upon Him, and be saved.  Sadly this often "translates" into support the state of Israel at all costs.  We believe that this is a grave mistake.

If God does not wink at the sins of nations, why should we wink at the sins of Israel?
There is no double standard with God.  He is not mocked.  We have written previously on the shame of widespread homosexuality in Israel.  Tel Aviv has become a modern Gomorrah and arrogantly boasts of its iniquity.  It aborts twenty thousand innocent children annually.  It is a socialist state; theft and envy is thus institutionalised.  Whilst the Law of the Covenant requires special care be taken of aliens, Israel makes confiscation of land and property of Palestinians (without compensation) a holy calling.  Persecution of Jewish Christians is real, continuing, and unofficially tolerated, as this video reveals.

Israel, like the West in general, thus lies under the curses of the Covenant. As in the West, whilst this situation continues the longer term prognosis is not at all good.  In the end our societies will integrate into the void as the God of nations causes us to reap what we have sown.

No nation or culture has a legitimate claim upon the blessings and favour of God, whilst we live in rebellion and unbelief, whilst we refuse to kiss the beautiful feet of the Son, of Messiah.  This most certainly applies to Israel.  Israel's only hope is the same as ours in New Zealand: that God would lift up the eyes of His countenance upon us, and give us His peace.  There is no distinction between Jew and Gentile, says the Scripture, for the same Lord abounds in riches for all who call upon Him--for whoever will call upon the Name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10: 12,13).  And there is no other Name given by God to all men by which we may be saved--and that Name is the Lord, Messiah Jesus (Acts 4:12).

The same applies--exactly--to the Palestinians, the Arabs and Islamic peoples.  We believe there is no hope for Israel, nor for the Palestinians, nor for us apart from us all repenting in sincerity, and calling upon Him together that we may be saved.  This hope dawns not by the sword, not by force, not by money, neither by theft nor intimidation nor terrorism, but by hearts renewed by the Spirit of God Himself.

Therefore, since these things are true, our allegiance is to Christ as Lord.  We call all nations to become His bondservants.  We are scrupulous to ensure that this call goes without favour, indiscriminately, to all men, all peoples.  We do not seek alliances, or schemes, or strategems with covenant breaking nations.  They are all brittle, dessicated reeds that will snap when we lean upon them. Christ summons and commands us to look to Him alone.

Only when the nation-state of Israel repents and returns to the God of their ancient fathers will it become once again a Promised Land.
