Japanese to Press Charges

Japanese Legal System at Work

Eco-terrorist, Peter Bethune, who boarded a Japanese whaling ship in the Southern Ocean, and who has been in irons (figuratively) and transported to Japan has been told that he will face serious charges. This is very good news. According to one news report:
The Japanese are throwing the book at New Zealand anti-whaling protester Pete Bethune.

They are bringing five charges against him over his boarding of the Shonan Maru 2 in the Southern Ocean.

He is accused of trespass, possession of weapon, injury to persons, damage to property and obstructing the passage of a vessel.

Bethune's lawyer Dan Harris says it's potentially a very serious situation.

He says he is surprised the charges have been brought and is calling the situation absurd.

Harris says there is literally no foundation to changes (sic) and Bethune will defend them vigorously.

Good luck with that. Maybe he will use the "Waihopai Defence"--that he was illegally boarding a ship and trying to kidnap the captain for the greater good.
