Taken For A Long Ride

An "Oh . . . . Puleeeze" Moment

Here is something which has generated lots of belly-laughter in the JT household.  The incredulous world was stunned to read/see/hear that the United States FBI is to re-open its investigation into President-elect, Hillary Clinton (just before the election, mind you).

Clearly the soap-opera of American politics needed what those in the trade call a "revitalisation".  To a man, the American media are now frothing at the mouth, shuddering in apoplectic fits.  What a revelation!  What an event!  You never heard of anything like this in Game of Thrones.  This from a breathless Washington Post:

Newly discovered emails found on a computer seized during an investigation of disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner have prompted the FBI to make new inquiries related to Hillary Clinton’s private email server, according to three people familiar with the deliberations. FBI Director James B. Comey informed congressional leaders Friday that the agency would take “appropriate investigative steps” to determine whether the newly discovered emails contain classified information and to assess their importance to the Clinton server probe.  . . .
Comey’s announcement appears to restart the FBI’s probe of Clinton’s server, which previously ended in July with no charges. The explosive announcement, coming less than two weeks before the presidential election, could reshape a campaign that Clinton, the Democratic nominee, has been leading in public polls.
What is going on?  Since everybody is speculating and conspiracies are sprouting forth like weeds in the spring garden, we might as well add a few more.  The realist, the cynic would opine that James-she's-guilty-but-we-must-not-prosecute-Comey just wants another bite at the cherry.  Sadly, his running cover for Clinton did not go down too well the first time, even, it is reported, amongst his own colleagues and staff.  So he has set this up to double down.  If first you don't succeed . . . Let's anticipate the script: Comey will soon sonorously announce to the nation--

  • the FBI has (exhaustively, thoroughly, [choose your adverbs] investigated the Weiner computer(s).
  • the FBI confirms that once-again the law was broken by Clinton and her associates.
  • the FBI decided not to prosecute.
  • the FBI confirms their belief that some people are just too big to fail and must be held in veneration as being above the law.
Our resident cynic holds forth.  Look at the payoff, he says.  Comey gets more time in the spotlight.  Comey has already got his sinecure with the Clinton administration worked out.  Clinton already has the fix in.  He will be put in charge of the Secret Service, whom Ms Clinton allegedly despises.  The Secret Service will be made an adjunct of the FBI and Clinton can kick them around via Comey.  Or, maybe if it pans out spectacularly, an appointment as Attorney-General for Comey may be in order.  It is Clinton's way of doing politics and running the White House.

If any non-conspiracy-theorist is tempted to think that this is just one more alarmist, extremist conspiracy theory you would be right.  According to Gary J. Byrne* it's how the Clinton's and their enablers operate and co-operate.  And James Comey appears to be well within the fold.  He sensed the wind, read the tea leaves, and moved--quickly.  Well, our story is as valid as the 5,259 others out there.
