Over at NZ Conservative umbrage is rightly being taken at the effrontery of a secular humanist politician presuming to cast himself in the role of a spokesman for the Christ. The matter at hand is Green politician, Russel Norman having the chutzpah to tell us what Jesus thought and taught about homosexuality and marriage.
[Colin Craig] says he's Christian, well, Jesus Christ - if he believed in anything, he believed in love, tolerance and inclusion, not the politics of hatred that Colin Craig is promoting [...] Colin Craig should apologize to all new Zealanders for his disgusting and offensive comments. Let's live in a society of tolerance and inclusion - and love. That, surely, is what the Christian message, interpreted the best way, is all about"Whom does Norman represent here?
Is he seeking to represent faithfully the Lord, whilst humbly submitting himself to His commandments and presenting himself as the Lord's true servant, or is he attempting to use the Christ as a pawn in his tawdry political game? Sadly we have to acknowledge that the latter does reflect a long, albeit ignoble, tradition.
When our Lord was in the desert, thrice Satan tempted Christ, each time misrepresenting the teaching of Scripture, and in the final instance so brazenly as actually to quote ipsissima verba. (Luke 4:1-13)
Each instance represented Satan's twisted perversion of the Bible's teaching.
So, in which tradition does Russel Norman stand? Does he stand in the light of the Christ, a humble and dedicated servant of the Lord of the heavens and the earth? Or does he stand in the tradition of Satan, misconstruing, misusing and distorting His holy truth to his own perverted ends? These are the only possible alternatives at the end of the day. There can be no middle ground.
Shall we take a vote upon which tradition Norman represents. No need, wethinks. It's patently apparent.
