Douglas Wilson's Letter From America

The 2010 Chainsaw Massacre

One of the hardest things for me to take in the election of Obama was the smug congratulatory blessing of the Europeans. Well, I think we have fixed all that now.

I have mentioned before P.J. O'Rourke's great line that this was not so much an election as it was a restraining order. It is now appearing to be not so much a restraining order as it is a chainsaw massacre. I mean, yikes.

In the "don't hold your breath department" I would like to ask if our emergent church types, who are all about missional contextualization, so that the faith can be made more relevant to the natives, will encourage their people to start buying cowboy boots, large, silver belt buckles, and Palin 2012 bumper stickers for their recently acquired pick-up trucks. No?

In the spirit of reaching out, and encouraging other conservatives not to gloat, I would like to mention that I did vote for a Democrat today. True, he was unopposed, and it was for the office of coroner, but still, I did it.

When all the pieces fall out of the sky, I will publish a few updates here, including perhaps a few comments on our local races here. In the meantime, the main thing we need to remember in all this -- and we need to remind ourselves of this every day -- is that the Republicans, who now have a strong hand in the House, are still, well, Republicans. We, in order to advance a biblical agenda, now have to work with the Republicans, who still have those black little hearts.
