Seeing Things In A New Light

Cruz Not So Bad

Endorsements for Ted Cruz are starting to come thick and fast.  As Senator Rubio seems to be fading, the increasingly stark choice for the Republican Party is either Donald Trump or Cruz.  When put in those terms, the eyes of most become focused and clear--rapidly.

Here is a sample of some recent endorsements.

Carly Fiorina, who has dropped out of the Republican race:

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO and GOP candidate Carly Fiorina endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for the Republican presidential nomination Wednesday.  The businesswoman-turned-politician spoke out in support of Cruz during a rally at Miami Dade College in Florida. She revealed that she had voted for him last Tuesday in the Virginia primary.

“I walked into the ballot box and I looked at the ballot and I saw my own name on the ballot. It was kind of a thrill,” she told the crowd. “But then I checked the box for Ted Cruz, and I’m here to tell you why.” . . .

Fiorina applauded Cruz’s consistency on the issues, saying he’s always been a “constitutional conservative” who didn’t care if he would get “invited to the cocktail parties” in Washington.
“Ted Cruz is a fearless fighter for our constitutional rights. He has spent his life protecting Americans’ God-given liberties, and he has always stood by his word,” Fiorina said in a statement. “Unlike the status-quo political class in D.C., Ted Cruz didn’t cower when he got to Washington — he stood unequivocally for the American people. I know Ted, and he’ll do the same as president.” [Yahoo News]
Mark Levin--a hard nosed, relentless conservative who despises the Republican establishment and its fetid Washington swamp:
Conservative talk show host Mark Levin endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for president Wednesday on his recently-launched television program. . . . “He appreciates, he embraces, he understands, and he has fought for throughout his life too. That is the Constitution, the republic, individual sovereignty, the separation of powers, the Bill of Rights, family, faith, a secure border, our national security,” Levin said.

The radio host conceded that “nobody’s perfect” — including his “great idol” President Ronald Reagan.  “So it’s not that we seek perfection or that we nitpicking ways to oppose somebody. No. You look at the whole picture. You take the whole life of the individual. You look at the entire career over a period of time. And when you do that, it really is a simple decision, is it not? If you’re a conservative, if you’re a constitutionalist, if you’d been a Tea Party activist, if you’re a Reagan-ite, or a Reagan Democrat, it really is in the end a simple decision,” Levin contended. “At least it is for me.” [The Blaze]
Utah Senator, Mike Lee:
Utah Sen. Mike Lee endorsed Ted Cruz for president on Thursday afternoon.  “It’s time, my fellow Americans, to expect more. It’s time to expect freedom,” Lee said at the University of Miami. “It’s time to elect Ted Cruz as the next president of the United States.” . . . .

Lee, a Tea Party stalwart and former Constitutional lawyer, was Cruz’s top Senate ally in the 2013 effort to defund Obamacare, which resulted in a 16-day government shutdown. The episode turned Cruz into a right-wing rock star, but it also earned him many Republican enemies on Capitol Hill, and until now he hasn’t received the endorsement of a single Senate colleague. Lee is the first sitting senator to formally back Cruz’s candidacy.  [Buzzfeed]
