All of life is religious and religions have consequences. Secular humanism--whilst formally a non-religion--is no exception. The Christian testimony to all other religions--including secular humanism--is that they are untrue. All are deceptive and misleading. All are vanities.
Because each in their own way rebels against the Living God Who made the heavens and the earth out of nothing by the Word of His power they have bad consequences. The world is "wired" to exist and function as God made and commanded it to be. Rebellion against God means rebellion against the created order. The consequences are never good.
There are a thousand illustrations of the point, but we will focus upon just one here.
The European Union is a panegyric to secular humanism. All meaning is grounded in Man--rationalistic autonomous Man. Law, justice, human institutions are supposed to reflect this "glory". The end is destructive--degrading to mankind, harmful in many ways. The consequences of the European secular humanist project are so idiotic and foolish they are worth only one response: satiric ridicule.
The reader is hard put to keep a straight face whilst perusing this piece in the New York Times:
Meanwhile 25% of the labour force in Spain is unemployed. When in a hole, the European Union will make sure you keep digging--feverishly. It's all to do with human rights--sacrosanct, holy and irrevocable human rights. The pantheon of secular humanism. The rapidly reducing number of employed in Spain (and now all Europe) have such grandiose rights and entitlements they will quickly join the ranks of the not-ever-again-to-work.On Vacation and Sick? A Court Says Take Another
By PAUL GEITNER
BRUSSELS — For most Europeans, almost nothing is more prized than their four to six weeks of guaranteed annual vacation leave. But it was not clear just how sacrosanct that time off was until Thursday, when Europe’s highest court ruled that workers who happened to get sick on vacation were legally entitled to take another vacation.“The purpose of entitlement to paid annual leave is to enable the worker to rest and enjoy a period of relaxation and leisure,” the Court of Justice of the European Union, based in Luxembourg, ruled in a case involving department store workers in Spain. “The purpose of entitlement to sick leave is different, since it enables a worker to recover from an illness that has caused him to be unfit for work.”With much of Europe mired in recession, governments struggling to reduce budget deficits and officials trying to combat high unemployment, the ruling is a reminder of just how hard it is to shake up long-established and legally protected labor practices that make it hard to put more people to work and revive sinking economies. The workers originally won their case in a Spanish court, where they argued that collective bargaining agreements made a distinction between annual leave and sick leave that was recognized by Spanish law. The National Association of Large Distribution Businesses, known as Anged, appealed to the Supreme Court in Madrid, which then asked the Court of Justice for a ruling on how to apply European law covering working times. The Court of Justice had previously ruled that a person who gets sick before going on vacation is entitled to reschedule the vacation, and on Thursday it said that right extended into the vacation itself. “The point at which the temporary incapacity arose is irrelevant,” the court found. The ruling applies across the European Union of 27 countries. . . .
Reginald Perrin, in the satire The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin, rages against eurorhubarb--the endless rules and regulations surrounding the growing, packaging, transporting and selling of rhubarb. Now we will doubtless enjoy perpetual fun at the expense of "euroleave".
There is no way out from this mess, but one. It represents the bad consequences that flow from a false religion. Any attempts to correct or change or reform or remove the imbroglio will be replaced by an even bigger mess of comedic pottage. The only way out is for Europe to repent and return to the God of their fathers.
Professing to be wise, they have became fools. They began to worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator. Consequently, their world ended not with a bang, but a whimper. It rotted from the inside.
