The Real Cause of Maori Sociopathic Behaviour

Contra Celsum has nominated Dr Pita Sharples for an S-Award

Dr Pita Sharples is co-leader of the New Zealand Maori Party. He recently identified the true cause of Maori sociopathic behaviour, for which we are profoundly indebted. Dr Sharples is a worthy candidate for the Award.

The Mongrel Mob has been studied on an award winning British documentary series on the world's most notorious gangs. The documentary will not be screened in New Zealand, by agreement. However, it is freely available on the Internet.

In it, the presenter links the anti-social, violent ideology and sociopathic behaviour of the Mongrel Mob to historical Maori culture, particularly its warrior ethos and tradition. In an article in a recent edition of the Sunday Star Times (4th May, 2008, qv “The file the Mongrel Mob didn't want you to see.”) criminologist Dr Greg Newbold expressed the thesis that the Mongrel Mob identified strongly with their warrior ancestors who, “were not bound by the rules of warfare . . . slaughtered prisoners at will . . . raped women. . . . many were taken as slaves and those who were not, were killed and eaten.” (Ibid.).

Newbold went on to argue that other general Maori social problems (prevalent domestic abuse, alcoholism, and violence) also had historical cultural roots. “Almost every time you hear about a child that's been beaten to death they are Maori. That's not new. It's a bloody sad truth. They can keep arguing the point but it's not going to change until people acknowledge it. Everyone who's involved in this kind of work knows it . . . . But very few people are prepared to say it because you are called a racist.” (Ibid.)

Dr Pita Sharples was quoted offering an alternative thesis as to why Maori are so over-represented in such evil behaviour. He argued that Newbold was talking rubbish and that, “In pre-European times Maori did not whack their babies and there was no alcohol. What I've looked at is the impact of colonisation on Maori and the bringing of fatty foods and flour and these kinds of things into a group that did not fit in the mainstream. It's natural that the group [Maori] should be over-represented in negative and low socio-economic statistics.” (Ibid.)

So there we have it. It's now official that it is natural that Maori should be evil and engaged in evil behaviour. The co-leader of the Maori Political Party has made the pronouncement. Maori are conditioned and therefore predetermined to such wickedness. But whence the conditioning? Who or what conditioned them? The colonising White Man who delivered fatty food, flour, and other unmentionable evils that resulted in moral and ethical degradation of the race, such that they continue to do wicked and evil things—which, of course, they did not prior to the introduction of these morally suborning European influences.

Seems reasonable to us. The next time a Maori is in the dock accused of murder or mayhem, Dr Pita—a middle class intellectual—has done research which gives them the appropriate defence. “The fatty food and the flour made me do it, your Honour, and it is the white man who brought these things to me. Mea non culpa.”

The great sadness is that Dr Sharples, in pursuing this line of fatuous reasoning, is doing his people a grave disservice. False diagnosis will only keep them from the cure. Blameshifting will only serve to lock the sociopathic behaviour in place.
