Man's Inhumanity to Man

Arise, O Lord

The Epoch Times has published a report upon "organ harvesting" in China.  We are aware that there are few limits to man's inhumanity to man.  This account reaffirms that view.  As the prophet said, "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.  Who can know it?"  (Jeremiah 17: 9,10)

Here is the sum of the matter:
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The authors of a new report about state-led organ harvesting in China presented their findings at the National Press Club on June 22, calling it a “slow motion genocide” that has led to likely over 1 million organs removed from unwilling donors.  “This fits the pattern of King Leopold and the Congo, and the genocides in Cambodia and Darfur,” said David Kilgour a former Canadian secretary of state and a co-author of the new report.

King Leopold of Belgium wrought a death toll of tens of millions running a slave trade in the Congo, researchers suspect, while in Cambodia and Darfur, Sudan, class and ethnic cleansing massacres with vast death tolls were carried out by the government and militia.
The likely estimate is that one transplant has meant one death. In other words, it was not just a matter of prisoners (usually of conscience) having their organs forcibly removed, but that while the donee's received the organs and appropriate medical care, the forced donors were left to die.
The traffic is running to between 60,000 and 100,000 per year.
The report says that Chinese hospitals across China have transplanted roughly between 60,000 and 100,000 organs per year since 2000. The death toll of all this activity is unclear, though according to the statements of Chinese doctors, it is likely that in the majority of cases one transplant equaled one death.

“The ultimate conclusion of this update, and indeed our previous work, is that China has engaged in the mass killing of prisoners of conscience, primarily practitioners of the spiritual based exercises Falun Gong and others… in order to obtain organs for transplants,” said David Matas, a Canada-based international human rights lawyer who has investigated the issue for a decade, and a co-author of the report.
Ironically, whereas in the West willing donor organ supply is the major constraint to transplant surgery, the constraint in China is the medical capacity (doctors, hospitals, equipment): unwilling involuntary donors are plentiful.
“What we see is the transplant industry expanding over time,” Matas said. “Organ supply has never been a problem—the limitations of the system have been doctors, hospitals, beds, nurses, training. So the number, year-by-year, has been growing because the hardware and capacity, not the organ availability, has increased.” . . . .

Matas said that it is clear from the Communist Party’s own literature on Falun Gong that it regarded the population as a group to be targeted with death. “If you look at all the propaganda against Falun Gong, it’s incitement to hatred of the vilest sort… within a Chinese context, where there are no contrary statements… it’s incitement to hatred, incitement to genocide.”
The practitioners of Falun Gong, a completely harmless group of eastern mystics, have long been singled out in China for terrible persecution.  In recent months it has been intimated by the Chinese government that this persecution was the "brainchild" and special project of a controlling clique within the Chinese government--a clique which is now being progressively excised, like a bad human organ, one may say.  There are signs that Falun Gong will be officially rehabilitated in time.  On the other hand, it is rumoured that Christians have also been a favoured target for death via organ removal.

But what will that do to the horrendous practice of murder by forced organ excision?  Will the Chinese government simply turn to another non-favoured group and prosecute their inhuman madness amongst it?  What sort of government treats its citizens like animals?  Well, it's the same kind of government that celebrates the murder of thousands of infants in their mother's womb as a fabulous human right and a glorious enlightenment.

The cry of Christians is to the Living God, the Lord, the Creator and Judge of all: "How long, O Lord will you permit such evil to afflict mankind?  Take note, O God.  Take action.  Our eyes look to You and we wait for You."

There is another side to this and that is the culpability of the organ receiver. Morality doesn't stop because you are the desperate customer. The knowledge that someone was effectively murdered by the state to let me live would haunt me - it would be worse than death.
